AXL Technologies

AXL-Force

AXL-Force is a suite of software technologies enabling software defined radio platforms to utilize Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) policies and advanced signal identification & classification algorithms. AXL-Force utilizes two core technologies:

  • Adaptive Cross Layer (AXL)
    • Framework for cross-layer network stack

  • Joint Routing and Dynamic Spectrum Allocation (ROSA)

    • Dynamic Route & Spectrum Allocation Algorithm

These technologies provide the AXL-Force network the key advantage of network survivability in the presence of contested and congested spectral environments and network congestion. This advantage is possible via optimal routing and opportunistic spectrum allocation such that communication requirements are met and does not interfere with other users.

Automatic Modulation Classification (AMC)

With the emergence of software-defined radios (SDRs), radio frequency (RF) communication devices have the capability to transmit in low power, change the transmitting frequency, and modify the modulation format on-the-fly. Adaptive modulation varies the rate of data transmission relative to the channel condition. In an environment without handshaking between the transmitter and receiver, an RF signals need to be recognized. Automatic Modulation Classification (AMC) is a widely used and demanded feature on receive to adapt without handshaking between the transmitter and receiver. AMC can be feature-based or likelihood-function-based.

We developed a low-cost sensor network solution that can perform AMC of weak RF signals. The goal was to demonstrate that AMC with multiple sensors can resolve modulation types in those scenarios where single sensor AMC methods fail.

CyberSE

CyberSE is a modular software technology which adds cyber security protection of the physical layer to software defined radio platforms. CyberSE utilizes the following technologies:

  • Intruder Detection—Collaborative Spectrum Sensing to identifying/blacklisting malicious nodes

  • Physical Layer Authentication– Low-layer Authentication Approach

ComX Radio Platform

ANDRO developed the ComX Radio Platform to be an open cross-application software-defined radio with reduced SWAP and reduced cost. The platform supports common off-the-shelve RF hardware with an embedded Linux programming environment. With AXL-Force software, the ComX radio can operate as a policy-based DSA radio with enhanced wireless security, opportunistic routing, and signal identification & classification. The open-platform nature of the ComX radio allows users to swap out network stack components based on application needs. The platform can be configured as a static access point or as a mobile manpack radio with rechargeable battery.
