ANDRO and Syracuse University Secure Navy Contract for AI-Spectrum Research

ROME, N.Y. — ANDRO Computational Solutions’ Marconi-Rosenblatt AI Innovation Lab of Rome, in collaboration with Syracuse University, was awarded a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase II research contract from the Office of Naval Research (ONR) valued at approximately $2 million including base and option funding. The project represents pioneering research to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) deep learning to improve radio spectrum utilization under challenging conditions.

Dr. Anu Jagannath, ANDRO Chief Scientist and Chief Research Officer (CRO) spearheads the initiative, alongside Dr. Jithin Jagannath, ANDRO Chief Scientist and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The ANDRO lead project team also includes Dr. Sabarish Krishna Moorthy, assisted by Syracuse University professors Dr. Biao Chen of the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department and Dr. Pramod K. Varshney, Distinguished Professor, providing invaluable knowledge to the project in advanced signal processing and distributed systems modeling.

Company officials stated that the ONR funding underscores the Navy’s commitment to advancing cutting-edge technologies for tactical communications and spectrum management. Beyond defense, the technology holds wide-ranging applications in commercial sectors such as 5G/6G communications, IoT networks, and autonomous systems. It also promises significant improvements in spectrum coexistence within shared environments like the Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) band, enabling simultaneous and seamless operation of military systems.

Company officials further stated that the collaboration between ANDRO and Syracuse University exemplifies the strength of academic-industry partnerships in addressing complex challenges extending over the past 30 years. Under the STTR contract, the team is poised to deliver groundbreaking solutions for both military and commercial applications, thus redefining the landscape of applying intelligent spectrum technologies for spectrum intelligence use cases.

ANDRO provides research, engineering, and technical services to defense and commercial industries in advanced spectrum exploitation, secure wireless communications, software-based waveform development, cognitive software-defined radio networking, secure drone-based mobile communications and networking, multi-sensor data fusion, and sensor resource management.
